You have cleared the BIT Aptitude Test and have got admission to
BITS
Pilani Goa Campus.
Congratulation. Well Done. This is how the main building looks!
Read on for some useful information, especially since you are
traveling for the first time to the campus and more or less you will
face the same scenario that we faced!
We reached Madgoan (we traveled by train though the airport is pretty close to the BITS campus, primarily to allow us to carry more luggage!)at around 0700 hours (expect a few drizzles to
some good rain - so carry an umbrella) on 29-July-2019. As you come
out you will be hounded by several taxi drivers, but the best is to
take the official pre-paid taxi. It should cost you INR 700 to reach
the BITS campus.
We had booked a hotel in Vasco (this is one of the closest suburb
from BITS campus, a taxi should charge you around 300-350 INR; you
will make plenty of trips!) and were debating if we should go to the
hotel or the BITS campus. We decided to go to BITS because it was on
the way to Vasco from Madgoan. I think we made the right decision. As
the taxi entered BITS campus, we had to make an entry at the security
gate (keep the details of the registration number handy) and you are
directed to the registration area which is about 1 km from the main
gate. By the time we reached there were lots of kids + parents
already there.
The good thing about BITS is that you get a hostel accommodation
(based on lottery is what we were told) even before you get admission
to the course! Remember the course and the campus are not yet
finalized especially if you ave opted for sliding (Goa - Hyderabad -
Pilani; different streams). You are allotted a hostel room (you might
get a single occupancy or a double occupancy depending on the
lottery) and given a hostel allotment slip which is useful for you to
actually get entry into the hostel, open a bank account and during
your admission.
However most of the first year students get in the same 2-3
hostels. In 2018 it was AH4 (single occupancy) and the newly
constructed D Block hostels (double occupancy). You can immediately
go and occupy your room, BITS makes arrangements to furnish your room
(meaning you do not need to carry much stuff from home!) in the form
of making vendors available from whom you can buy buckets, mugs, door
curtain, bedding, pillow, broom (well you need to keep your room
clean yourself!) and there is a small super bazar where you can get
all your soaps, mosquito repellents etc.
No worries. The seniors will walk you through the campus, which
initially feels like a very huge campus, but eventually it is not
very huge and very well manageable by the students.
General-
The campus is about 5 km from the airport and if you are traveling by train the Madgoan station is about 22 kms.
-
Prepaid taxi's are available and should cost you (with all your luggage)
-
You can buy books for the first year from your second year student. Kids being kids will sell for the same price that they purchased .. so buying on amazon.in and from your senior will turn out to be the same .. however you get some extra notes from your seniors!
-
Be prepared for a lot of walking in the campus
-
A long corridor makes it easy for students to go directly from the hostel room to their lecture room even in rain minus an umbrella!
